No one could ever accuse Jason Wu of wasting time. This Friday, as part of his Spring 2011 show, he’ll unveil his first accessories designs. “My inspiration was old Hollywood glamour,” says the hard-working 27-year-old of the three bag and four shoe styles that debut on the runway later this week. An updated version of a forties frame bag, a classic tote, and a chic clutch in nude, “luggage” brown, and navy tones pay homage to the bygone era, alongside an exotic range of vertiginous platforms. “I was interested in mixing textures,” he reveals of the strappy concave horn heels in baby calf, Karung lizard, and Nile perch fish. “They’re classic, but with a little zing.” The collection also introduces a nocturnal muse who goes by the moniker Ms. Wu. The small enamel owl motif stamped on soles, clasps, and dangling charms adds whimsy to what is otherwise a pretty grown-up collection. Says Wu, “I’m a firm believer that fashion should be fun!”

Handbags priced from $995 to $1,995; shoes from $595 to $995. Available from January 2011.
