This past Thursday, I attended a gallery opening at Clic Bookstore & Gallery called “An Artist’s Studio: The Art, Objects, & Inspiration That Surrounds Don Carney” located at 255 Centre Street, NYC. The exhibit runs from October 13 – November 13, 2011. For the exhibit, Don recreated a studio environment inside the gallery. The space includes art, antiques, one-of-a-kind objects, and assorted inspiration from Carney’s studio. Carney’s unique ink drawings on paper is also on display. These drawings, displayed in vintage frames, recall woodblock textiles from the 1940’s.
Don Carney was born and raised in Massachusetts where he studied illustration at the Art Institute of Boston. He divides his time between homes in New York City and Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is the co-founder of PATCH NYC.
Recent exhibitions/showings include: RAW (Milan), Barneys New York, Louis Boston, Astier De Villatte (Paris), ABC Carpet & Home (NYC), Hudson city Antiques (NYC), Bon (Tucson).
