The tornado did not stop my husband, actor Etienne Navarre and I from arriving at Bortolami Gallery in Chelsea for the Imitation of Christ SS13 presentation. The models ranging from about 8-9 years of age to a Carmen Dell’Orefice look-a-like stood in front of “changing mirrors” with piles of clothing on the floor next to each one of them. They were in a world of their own; twirling, dancing, giggling, looking at their appearances in the mirror. Every so often there was a frequent change of clothing, perhaps trying to find that perfect look, just as we women do in the privacy of our own closet.
The second room showcased a live installation of models in the nude wearing glass masks and their bodies marked with glass, plastic surgery notations. A video of pregnant artist Vanessa Beecroft in the nude played on a loop. Glass artist, Ivan Lee Mora created the glass pieces during his residency in Venice, Italy this summer. This marks the second collaboration between Subkoff and Mora.
And of course no fashion show or presentation is complete if there are no actors present.
